We received news no family wants to hear. My mom Cindy Gagnier (58) has been diagnosed with Stage II small cell lung cancer.
She is undergoing chemo treatments (at least 6 treatments) with the goal to hit remission in December. She has been deemed 100% disabled and unable to work and at this time she has no medical insurance. She has applied for SSI and is waiting for approval which can take months. Until she is denied, she cannot apply for private insurance and more than likely will be denied due to a preexisting condition.
Each chemo treatment is $9836.00 out of pocket, not to mention each doctor visit of $450. We estimate at least $12,000 a month will be needed to help her kick cancers butt!
