Help Lose the Helmet: Benefit for Tyler

Tyler was born with a very rare genetic disorder that has several complications, but the most challenging being severe epilepsy. Having 3-15 intractable seizures a day, of course, leads to slowed developement and him having to wear a helmet everyday. For the past six and a half years, doctors have used several different medication regimens and dosages, and have informed us this was all they could do for him. Being the condition is progressive, and getting more aggressive the older he gets, medication has failed. I could not watch my child suffer through days of pain, noncoherence, and being emotional unstable any longer, so I decided to reach out to more doctors. This year has been filled with many test and procedures, and after a panel of doctors have studied his brain extensively, they have decided he is a candidate for a procedure called a Corpus Callosotomy. They have predicted Tyler will be 90% seizure free after the surgery, which will be life-changing for him and our whole family.
