Point Of View Project
Have you ever known what it feels like to not have a picture of yourself? Have you ever known what it feels like to not have access to modern technology? In Kibera, one of the largest slums in Africa, this is a sad reality to many of the children. Here at Care Highway International we want to try to change that, and with your help, we can.
- What We're About
Care Highway operates a small children's school, The Little School, in Kibera. One of our long time goals has been to start an arts curriculum at The Little School that focuses on art and photography. We realize that the children in Kibera have very rarely, if ever, had access to either cameras or technology. With funds received from this campaign, we can knock out both of these obstacles simultaneously.
- Our Plans
We plan to institute a curriculum that exposes the children to basic art as well as photography. With this program, the children will gain access to art supplies, five digital cameras, and two laptops, the latter which will be used to take and upload photos on modern equipment. The program will run every other Saturday for half-a-day, will involve a teacher qualified to teach basic art and photography, and will be aided by students who are both volunteers from the University of Kenya as well as graduates of The Little School. Also, because the children will be at school on a Saturday, they will be provided with a meal, as they would on any other school day, thus providing them with an extra day of crucial nutrition in an area stricken with food scarcity.
- Donations
All donations from this campaign will go directly to making sure that the Point of View Project is installed. Although donations of all sizes are appreciated, those that meet our required levels, as described above, will receive some of our outstanding perks. The perks which include photos will contain the photos that were taken by the children in Kibera in a pilot project ran earlier this year on disposable point-and-shoot cameras. We hope that with better equipment supplied from this campaign, the children will be able to continue to take pictures at an even higher quality. As with anything, we realize that the potential for corruption exists in the world of consumer electronics. That is why we have made it a prior aim to only purchase products that are made by companies with the highest ethical and environmental standards.
With your help, we can make this dream a reality. We hope that you help us reach our goals, and more importantly, help the children in Kibera.
