Smith Ski Team's 2014 Season

Smith College has had an alpine ski team since 1950s. Over the past five years, it has sent athletes to the Eastern Regional Championships every year and to the National Championships in four of them, including 2013.

We have set our goal at $10,000 to help take some of the financial burden off athletes, so they can focus on their love of skiing rather than its monetary cost. We are no longer a varsity sport so we must cover many of the costs ourselves.

Our season expenses include both training and race related costs. Training costs include paying for lane space, lift tickets and/or season passes, and transportation fees. Race expenses additionally include lodging and entry fees. This year entry fees for the team for each weekend ranged between $350 and $500. The cost to house the team for each race was around $600. We have 5 weekends of regular season racing followed by Regionals if we qualify and the week-long Nationals if we really do well.

We compete in the MacConnell Divison of the U.S. College Ski Association (USCSA), traditionally the most competitive division in the east. Most of the teams we compete against are varsity programs. Help us stay competitive with these programs and help us get through next season with less personal financial burden.
