Let me start out by thanking you for taking the time to visit this GoFundMe page and to read my story. This first step means so much to me!
My name is Chris Wall, and I am a Psychology major at Virginia Commonwealth University. I started attending college back in the Fall of 2004. Due to a serious battle with depression, I ended up leaving the university in the Spring of 2006. I always wanted to come back, but never believed that I really would. It was a solid 9 years before I was able to return, but I returned with a passion. I knew what I was going to do -- what my major would be, what my end goal was, and, even, how long it would take. I wanted to help people on a large scale.
Over the last four semesters, I have managed to make all A's, fallen in love with Social Psychology, and worked in three different labs (mostly concurrently). I have learned, and I have grown. I have met people who I see as being lifelong colleagues – people who have taught me what it means to be a scientists, to be critical of what we read, and to be compassionate towards everyone. I have worked towards my long term goal of graduate school, where it is my desire to study the nature of identity (with a particular focus in gender identity). I want to change the world, one research project at a time.
Unfortunately, one of the things that I hadn't accounted for was limited funding and the increased price of tuition. I'm at a place right now where I don't have the funding for my final undergraduate semester. For me to be able to even apply to graduate schools in order to pursue a PhD., I need to finish my Bachelor's degree. While I do have loans and grants that help me pay for some of the cost of my last semester, I just don’t have enough to cover it completely, financial aid has been unable to assist me in coming up with financing, and the semester begins in less than three weeks. So I’m asking for your help. Any aid that you can provide will go a long way in helping me cover tuition, fees, and books.
