Our son Corey needs your help!
At 3 years old, Corey is still unable to sit, stand or walk. He attends a specialist nursery and sees health professionals on a regular basis who help him with his development. He is ambitious and determined and gets incredibly frustrated when he can't do or get to what he wants. He is also non verbal so can't express his wants or feelings. Despite this, Corey is bright, happy and full of laughter. He never fails to make us laugh every day with his silly faces. We want to pay him back by making life a little more comfortable for him.
We first noticed something wasn't quite right with Corey when he failed to meet the usual milestones. At one year old he had just begun to roll over and was nowhere near as advanced as he should be. After some tests, we were introduced to the term 'Global Development Delay' which means he is missing milestones in all areas of development.
About a year ago, he was diagnosed with microcephaly. His head is smaller in comparison to other children of his age and in turn, also has a smaller brain. We have been told that this could be the reason for his development delay and also his epilepsy which he has just recently started medication for in an attempt to control his seizures. Unfortunately this has so far been unsuccessful and he has in excess of 20 seizures per day leaving him tired and withdrawn.
Currently Corey cannot sit unaided, walk or even stand unsupported. He requires the use of specialised equipment every day such as a wheelchair, standing frame, bath seat, adaptable chair etc and as he grows so does his needs.
We have set this up in an attempt to raise money so we can buy Corey specialised equipment which isn't available to us through the NHS. The first thing we need is a car seat for Corey which is over £2000. We hope to hold various types of events in order to raise as much as possible so keep an eye on our Facebook page to get involved.
