Our beloved Mia Michaux-Carroll had a heart condition from birth which led to cardiac arrest and brain injury on Wednesday, January 20th. Family and friends have been with her throughout this devastating ordeal.
Knowing that this week Mia's husband, David, and her mother Candice faced decisions on her behalf is almost surreal. They worked with her physicians and prayed for her well-being. I have been with David and Candice (Mia's mother) since Thursday night.
Other friends and family have been here too. I know God is looking down on them and they have demonstrated strength and grace that is humbling. Mia was in the best of care with a dedicated team of doctors and nurses who exemplify dedication, expertise, courage and compassion.
May God give Mia's family the peace they need going forward in this most difficult time and allow us to provide a small blanket of comfort for them in their time of need.
I have spent many moments thinking back on all of the wonderful times I have had with David and Mia throughout the years. Take some time today to do the same and send your positive thoughts and prayers on behalf of Mia.

I was devastated when Mia’s husband David called me last week to say she was in the hospital. I learned that her heart condition had taken a sudden and unexpected turn for the worse, setting off a chain of events.
My witty, charming, dynamic, and loving friend of 20 years was in terrible distress. Over the following days, I spent several hours with David, Candice (Mia's mom), and Jon (among other friends) at Vassar Brothers hospital. We prayed and listened to the physicians who have been dedicated and attentive. But the prognosis has shown us we need to: “Let Go and Let God.”
It is with deep sadness that I watched a friend, with whom I shared so much (including a first name), endure thus. I will never forget her smile, her beauty, her humor, her insights, and the long 'girlfriend' talks we shared. We are thankful she is receiving excellent care and love.
Mia received extensive hospital care, including transportation via helicopter to Vassar Brothers hospital. A group of us thought that establishing this fund to help cover the expenses (which their insurance will not) would be a meaningful way of demonstrating support. Any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated. We hope you will keep Mia and David in your thoughts and prayers.
