Amilton Sampaio's Medical fund

My name is Josh Smith and I’ve been a Rural carrier at the Lehi Post Office since November of 2014. It came to our attention that our friend and co-worker, Amilton Sampaio will require open heart surgery later this month. After discussing options to help him and his family, we decided to start this campaign in an effort to alleviate the financial burden they will soon face during this difficult time ahead.

Amilton  Sampaio was recently diagnosed with a severe heart condition after a routine medical exam. After multiple tests were performed, they identified a leaking valve which will require open heart surgery. On a scale from 1-4 in severity, they rated his condition a 4 and determined the surgery should take place as soon as possible. His surgery is scheduled for the third week of July at Utah Valley Hospital.

As a Rural Carrier Associate with the Post Office, you do not qualify for paid time off or sick leave although we often work over 40 hours a week. He will be unable to work for at least 6-8 weeks but likely much longer than that before being able to do any strenuous work. Amilton also works various side jobs in addition to his Post Office duties to make ends meet for his wife and family which include 2 small children with another on the way.

The out of pocket expenses not covered by insurance will be $4,000 to $5,000 and the loss of earned income during his recovery time will be close to $7,000. We hope to meet and exceed the goal as soon as possible so they have a bit less to worry about before the surgery takes place.
