Olivia Goes to Oxford

Hi, I'm Olivia and I'm excited to have recently been accepted into the master's program for sociology at the University of Oxford in England, U.K. This is a fantastic opportunity for me to live abroad and study at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world.

 

In May 2021, I graduated with honors summa cum laude from Goucher College, majoring in sociology with a social justice concentration and a minor in Africana Studies. I have spent my gap year being a family caregiver for my grandmother diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While it has been a challenging year I am truly looking forward to continuing my education in pursuit of a master's and doctorate degree, and then a career in academia.

 

Being able to attend Oxford would be instrumental to my future. As the daughter of an immigrant from West Africa, this would be such a tremendous accomplishment for me and my family.

 

As an international student, my fees will be higher. As of now, I have not received any aid so I am looking for any financial assistance. It is more difficult to be awarded assistance as an international student. My course fees are exactly 30,330 pounds equating to about 37,195 USD. It would be extremely helpful if I could reduce that number to decrease the number of loans I will have to take out. This is an investment in my future that I am embarking on and I would be so grateful for any help.
