Brave Sophie

My daughter Sophie is a beautiful 10-year-old girl with Alagille Syndrome. She is currently in end-stage liver disease and is awaiting a life-saving liver transplant. Sophie has had a variety of complications in the last three months, and is currently in the PICU at MGH for close monitoring until a liver comes along. It has been so hard to watch her deteriorate before our eyes.

Our family was hoping for a transplant over the summer, but the long wait has led me to be out of work longer than expected, with a return date dependent on how she recovers post transplant. Her Step-Dad has rearranged his work schedule in order to care for Sophie's 8-year-old brother Gavin while I stay at the hospital with Sophie the majority of the time. It's a very difficult time for us, both emotionally and financially, as we try to figure out our new "normal."
