Hi, Everyone! I'm Ivy Carpenter, an oboist from Petoskey Michigan. Currently, I'm attending my Junior year of High School at Interlochen Arts Academy, where I'll be returning as a Senior in the fall as well. After graduation, I plan on attending a conservatory to further my musical education, and I hope to someday hold a job as a professional oboist.
This summer, I was accepted to the woodwind program at La Domaine Forget, in Quebec, where I'd be under the study of Alex Klein and Eugene Izotov, the Chicago Symphony's former and current principal oboists. I was also accepted into a week-long class with Elaine Douvas, Instructor of Oboe and chair of the woodwind department at the Juilliard School.
Between the financial stress of paying for two years of tuition, the money we recently spent on a professional-level instrument, and the extensive travel costs I'll have next year when I travel for my college auditions, it'll be really tough for my family to make this happen without a good amount of help. My dad owns a small bakery in Northern Michigan, and the money that he's currently paying for my school tuition is already spreading us thin. To add to all of this, my private teacher rarely returns to our town and currently plays for the Toronto Symphony, so if I can't attend these programs, I'll spend my summer without instruction. With my senior year at Interlochen and my college auditions approaching, this would get in the way of my progress and it's something I'm really trying to avoid.
The money that I'll hopefully raise here will be used only for the travel costs of flying to and from California and Quebec from Michigan, and the program costs that my dad can't cover. On the off chance that I exceed my goal, the money will go towards my plane tickets for auditions next year. Every little bit helps, so please contribute if you can. Thanks so much!
