Roisin’s Road To Recovery

*UPDATE *

For just over a year, our sister Roisin has been receiving treatment for a rare aggressive cancer, osteosarcoma, on the right side of her lower jaw. She was immediately put on a combination of intensive chemotherapy made up of 3 different drugs and had  major surgery in May to remove the whole right side of her jaw bone also anything within a 1cm margin, and replace it with bone from her leg. Roisin has had to re-learn how to speak, eat and swallow

The great news is that there are no obvious signs of cancer in her body however, Roisin will continue to receive immunotherapy until February 2022. Other surgeries will be required to align her jaw and give her some shiny new nashers. The accidental discovery of a Giant Cell Tumour in her knee (which is benign) during treatment also means further surgery to remove this tumour is booked for early next year. There will be checkups over the next 5 years to keep an eye on the cancer. 

Roisin has always dreamt of travelling and before covid, had planned on moving to Amsterdam to start following her dreams. There is no doubt she needs it more than ever once she has fully recovered.  She has been out of work for a year which gives her little chance to save for future plans to travel.
