Ethel Bellas Memorial Fund

Ethel Bellas, 80, passed away on February 25, 2021. Ethel was often described as being everyone’s Auntie in the Native American community in California’s Eastern Sierra. For those who knew Ethel well, found her to have a great sense of humor, along with kind words of encouragement, with a generous and giving heart, as well as hosting family dinners anytime of the year. Whenever someone called Ethel on the phone, they would often hear a cheerful and bright voice answer on the other line, such as “What’s up girl!” or “Hello!” if a niece, nephew or family member would call.
Ethel held many great positions throughout her Navy and civilian career, which included a top-secret clearance secretary in the Pentagon, a booking clerk for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, and also being one of the first female Native American recruiters to recruit more females into the Navy.
Ethel lived a full life enjoying the love and company of relatives, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was a lady of class, dignity, punctuality, and organization.
I often remember my great aunt, Ethel as encouraging me to pursue a college degree, and I would often listen to her adventures of the Navy or the stories of the people she met in her lifetime. Even though Ethel Bellas will have a military ceremony in her honor, there is still a huge expense that is needed to pay for her funeral—the family would appreciate any donation that is made in her honor.
