World Youth Chess Olympiad U16

I am delighted to inform you that a team of five chess players from Victoria are selected to represent Australia at the upcoming World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad, which will be held in Poprad-Tatry, Slovakia, from 21-30 July 2016.

 All participating teams from each country must comprise of five Under-16 players, of whom at least one must be a female.  Despite being a relatively young team, the team clearly fulfils the requirements to represent Australia well.

The male team members are ranked #2, #4, #5 and #6 in Australia Under-16. The female team member is ranked #2 in Australia Under-16 Girls.

Below are the team representing Australia and are all from Victoria.

1. David Cannon:              The reigning Australian Under-16 Australian Champion. 

2. Kris Chan:                        Currently ranked #1 in Australia Under-14.

3. Vishal Bhat:                    Currently ranked #2 in Australia Under-14.

4. Luis Chan:                        Currently ranked #3 in Australia Under-14.

5. Licia Yao:                          Currently ranked #2 in Australia Under-14 Girls.

As the estimated cost for the team towards travel, uniform, registration and coaching during the event is $15,000. On behalf of the entire team could we please request you to donate generously to support the team in this internationally honoured event.

Note: As this self funded event so all funds generated will only be used to cover the cost for players to participate in this event. Additional amount will be handed over to charity/chess club.
