7Midnights Physical Research (7MPR) is a creative dance theater project which combines dance and live music in it’s ongoing concert series. It has two-branch programs: 7MPR Themed Dance Theater and 7MPR Themed Cultural Dance Collective. The Midnight Performance Series focuses on NYC based artists and has been creating engaging shows since 2019. Our main program, 7MPR Themed Dance Theater is an experimental dance and music theater focusing on performance with 7 themes of social issues: Class, Education, Ability, Sexuality, Race, Age, Gender. By producing shows and bringing artists together with a diverse view of performing arts in dance and music, 7MPR has established a wonderful artists community. During the COVID-19 time, 7MPR has continued its operation running six virtual shows for artists who are making dance and music in hopes of giving it’s artist the platform to reflect on the hardships of being COVID era artists. It also provide a safe space and platform for people to have access to watch diverse and incredible works from talented 7MPR artists.
With increasing violent cases of Asian Hate since 2020, 7MPR decided to host in-person performances in August, 2021, as a solidarity performance event based on the theme of “Stop Asian Hate and Any Hate” that responded to Anti-Asian Violence as our themed mission for this important and special time. This solidarity show was 7MPR’s Seventh Midnight Performance and first transitional show shifting into COVID safe in person live performances in 2021. 7MPR will continue its collaboration with Arts On Site, the partnership of 7MPR Themed Dance Theater, where we used to host performance events since 2019. In the meantime, we are also willing to connect to different performance spaces and dance studios for more diverse experimental performance events. So we started our fundraiser as important financial support for 7MPR’s future performances and goals, which includes the financial need for: the rent of the performance space, compensations for artists for each choreographic work which will completely based on how the fundraiser is going, photographers, videographers, and video editors, graphic designers, as well as all the supplies for both virtual shows and in-person performances in the future.
The plan of the Themed Dance and Music Performance for Stop Asian Hate and Any Hate in August has been the first step to get back to our performance space and bring live performance to audiences. 7MPR is continuing its performance events in 2022. Our mission is to keep the performing art alive, support artists and discuss and bring the awareness of human rights and social justice with the power of performing art in dance and music. Therefore, our goal is to raise $2,000-6,000 to cover the costs of the need of upcoming performances, including the rent of space; the rate for tech staff for any show at AOS 3R Theatre; the rent of holding room during the show; payment for graphic designer, photographer and videographer, the cost for programs and flyers design, and the most important payment for every choreographer and musician's works that totally depends on how 7MPR fundraiser is going. We are planning to have 4 Midnight Performance Series in 2022 and 3 Midnight Performances in 2023, and keep making efforts for more performance events in the future.
