BASSH!

November 5 & 6, 2021 at the Marjorie Luke Theater, Santa Barbara, CA.

Now in its twentieth year, BASSH has become an icon of the performing arts in Santa Barbara, and one of its longest-running dance shows. Our mission is to inspire everyone to participate in the exciting world of dance while promoting Santa Barbara area dance studios, choreographers, teachers, and dancers.  “BASSH,” Derrick Curtis Productions, and Art without Limits, our 501(c)3 sponsor, based in Santa Barbara, California.

As a community production, BASSH includes dancers representing a range of ages and abilities, from internationally recognized champion dancers to highly trained students and dedicated amateurs. In addition, our director, Derrick Curtis, a long-time dancer, dance teacher, performance coach, and the founder of BASSH two decades ago, recently lost one of his legs and will be dancing with a prosthetic leg.

The acronym BASSH originally stood for Ballroom, Argentine Tango, Swing, Salsa, and Hip Hop, and was designed to bring social dance forms to the stage. However, in the past few years, we have greatly expanded the scope of the show to include many of the beautiful ethnic and folkloric styles we have in Santa Barbara, including Middle Eastern, Flamenco, Mexican Folkloric, Chinese, and Bollywood, as well as aerial, lyrical, and contemporary dance styles.

We are seeking donations to cover the operating expenses of this valuable and iconic community production, including theater rental for rehearsals and two evening shows, rental of studio space, printing programs, and other operating expenses.
