Bring Back The Dreams

Donation protected
Hello. My name is Cody Hallman. Thank you for taking a moment of your time to read my story and I hope you are able to increase my mission to bring back the dreams to me & my family. I am setting up this page to help my mother, Patricia Hallman care for the needs of my step father, Tom Byrum, who means so much to me now more than ever. On 12.5.2020 my biological father passed from this world leaving me and my family heart broken. Not having a chance to meet him while he was living, I now do not have even that option. Grief stricken, I came down with a cold. I kicked it after a couple days, however my mom & step dad got it at the end of that week. My mom kicked it after a couple days, Tom continued to get ill until on 12.25.2020 I had to call my mom from work to help me as he slid off his chair and I couldn’t get him up off the floor. That afternoon we realized we were limited to help him and he needed an ambulance. A call from the hospital told us he had viral pneumonia. The local hospital he was taken to unfortunately created many setbacks for Tom, so on 1.1.2021, Tom transferred himself to the VA hospital in Milwaukee, WI. On 1.14.21 mom & I drove the hour & a half to our allowed appointment of 20 minutes to visit Tom. At this point Tom had been gone from home and unable to see any family for 21 days. The emotional and mental deprivation of that alone was so wearing on Tom’s soul. At the time of this writing, Tom will be moving through some rehab at the hospital before being released to a rehab care facility closer to home. It is our plan to bring him home for home care after he regains some strength and independence. Tom has a long road ahead to recapture his energy after being knocked out for a month. We have always had a self generating existence prior to this point in time. We are a family that supports one another, works together toward meeting our needs and accomplishing our goals, however this blindsided our family. Tom will not be able to go back to his part time employment. Tom just bought this house a year and a half ago. We want to keep things going here until he can be home again and during his home recovery period. Currently my mom has missed work, I have missed some time while I just started a new job and Tom will only be able to contribute his social security to the needs that have incurred from his illness. We are unsure how long recovery will take or what kind of existence Tom will be left to deal with in the long run. Looking ahead my mom and I feel our goal to raise $55,000.00 is a fair assessment of our situation. Our needs will be elevated when Tom comes home as he may still be on oxygen treatment. My mom incorporates natural methods for our family’s well being and will need to have additional items on hand for repairing the damage Tom’s body has experienced. Thank you for reading our story. We do not ask you to contribute if you are having difficulties, we realize 2020 has been hard on mostly everyone. We do appreciate any amount of help given to help us reach our goal.
