Finding Blue a Forever Home

Everyone, meet Blue. A very young, stray puppy who we found badly injured on the side of the road in Cappadocia, Turkey. He was covered in blood and what we thought was blue spray paint. He was alone and abandoned by his mother and siblings.

At night, the tempures drop below freezing and so we made the quick decision to wrap him up in a towel and take him back to our hotel room. We gave him and gentle and warm bath to clean him up so we could locate where he was injured. Turns out he had an open, weeping wound on his ribcage behind his front, right leg.

We were effectively able to clean the wound and bandage him up. Soon after, Blue fell into a deep, well deserved sleep. But as the evening progressed, he began to scream out in pain, he developed a fever and was panting very heavily. That's when we decided to call the vet. During Covid lockdowns, it was difficult to find, especially at 2am, but we managed to get in touch with 2 vets who left their homes and met us at their clinic.

They gave Blue three separate IV drips, a few shots and evaluated his situation. Turns out, over the last day or so, he had lot a tremendous amount of blood, had at least one cracked rib and had been aimlessly sprayed with a bright blue disinfectant spray. The vets assured if we hadn't picked up up from the street, there was no doubt he would have died alone in the cold that night.

After his pain killers began to kick in, we were able to take him back to our hotel and spent the whole night awake, comforting him and making sure he got the rest he so desperately needed. The next day, we returned to the vet for a second round of IV drips and injections.

On day three, he woke up in the morning with more energy, and much more personality than we had ever seen. His condition was improving greatly! But with our prior commitments to visit with family in a city an hour away, we knew we wouldn't be able to provide Blue with the care he needed to best continue his recovery.

So with the financial help of an amazing friend and a gifted vet himself in the United States, we were able to leave Blue with the two vets in Cappadocia to watch over him and continue his treatments. We even asked them to begin his vaccination injections as soon as possible. These are mandatory for puppies, especially in Turkey, since there are more street dogs than owned and cared for ones.

We are currently looking forward to reuniting with Blue in the next week, but know that his road to recovery isn't over and that finding him the perfect forever home may require some financing as well, seeing as how Turkish homes very rarely take in any kind of animals. This means we will be traveling with Blue in order to get him to a safe, loving and capable home where he will live a long, happy and healthy life!

Any contributions would be greatly appreciated, and would go towards past and future medical treatments for Blue, and for the costs to keep him off the streets and fund the search for the the forever home he deserves.
