Baby Watson Boyd

Watson was born 12/03/2020 at Martin Army Community Hospital at 35 weeks old via emergency C-section. At birth he was given pressure assisted ventilation, which ultimately caused him to suffer a pneumothorax in both lungs. He was intubated and received two chest tubes to give him oxygen. He was then rushed to Piedmont Midtown’s NICU here in Columbus, GA where he spent the next week of his life getting to a stable place—from a respiratory stand point. Piedmont was able to discover he was in a pretty severe stage of renal failure and got him flown to Children’s of Birmingham where he is receiving dialysis. As of right now they are unsure of what caused this. Birmingham was able to confirm that he is in end stage renal failure. Currently the kidneys are stable and dialysis is helping him. He is currently having platelet trouble and is intubated again for respiratory distress. The treatment plan and timeline is continuous dialysis until he is big enough for a peritoneal dialysis machine, which will allow him to come home and receive dialysis nightly. This is estimated of around 3-4 months of age. When he gets around age two, the renal team foresees him needing a kidney transplant. At the time being Mom & Dad are transporting back and fourth from their home to Birmingham to see baby Watson. They are unable to stay at the Ronald McDonald house due to Covid. So this money will help with hotel, food & gas expenses for them to be able to stay comfortably and not have any more stress put on them and they are able to stay close to baby Watson!
