Hello, I started this gofundme at the request of my Husband, Steve Walking Eagle. To purchase an Automated External Defibrillator/AED, other Medical Equipment needed, and for several upcoming Medical Appointments in Rapid City and Sioux Falls SD, in the next few months that are scheduled.
Steve and I are currently certified EMTs and have been for over 23 years. We haven't been able to be the active EMTs we used to be, due to his health in recent years.
He has had to undergo Angioplasty and Stent placement twice in 2020 to open his Arteries. He has 9 stents placed in his heart now and underwent bypass a few years ago. The most recent being in late November, 2020, where he was flown to Rapid City, and his arteries we're opened after 3 hours with angioplasty.
After he was released from the Hospital, he self Isolated himself from the rest of the family. A day after Thanksgiving, he began to have what he thought was Covid-19 Symptoms. On November 28th, it really hit him hard. He fought hard for 11 days at home. He struggled to breathe and had a low heart beat for many days. He had many of the other Corona Virus symptoms.
He was tested for Covid-19 on December 1st, along with myself, our son, daughter inlaw and our 14 month old grandson. He knew deep down he was positive for Covid-19. After a week passed and no test result, he contacted the SD Department of Health, who confirmed that He had indeed tested positive for the Nasal Corona Virus. He was cleared by the state, as recovered on December, 5th. His shortness of breath, fast/slow beat continued even though he was cleared.
Steve was taken to the Emergency Room on Thursday, December 17th, as he struggled to breathe, and his nail beds on his finger tips were blue. He was admitted for several days. He was tested again for Covid-19, while in the hospital, and had a negative test result.
His Heart and Lungs have been severely affected by Covid-19. Steve is now at home and is now on home oxygen, due to lung damage caused by Covid-19. He still struggles to breathe and his oxygen stats remain low even with home oxygen. His heart beats fast up to 120 beats a minute, then drops down to the 30's and 40's, which it is very painful for him.
Steve lost his Mother to Covid-19 on May 21,2020. He is fighting hard to get better and wants all life saving measures preformed in the event his heart stops. It would take a bit for our fellow EMTs to reach him. Steve wants an Automated External Defibrillator/AED, here at home with him in the event his heart we're to stop. The cost for an AED, ranges from $1,800 up to over $2,500.
He also needs a Pulse Oximeter that records, and a automatic Blood Pressure unit. He needs his Oxygen levels, closely monitored as well as his Blood Pressure.
All funds raised will go towards an Automated External Defibrillator/AED, Other Medical Equipment, and the many upcoming Dr appointments in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Any remaining funds will go towards his hospital bills that are piling up. As his insurance doesn't cover everything. Thank You!
