Gabbie’s Story

On Sunday June 5th Gabrielle and her boyfriend Travis were in a car accident in rural Jackson County. Travis suffered minor injuries and is doing well; Gabrielle was airlifted to Sanford hostiptal in Sioux Falls shortly after the accdient. When she arrived in Sioux Falls at Sanford ER they did several CT's and discovered that she had a brain injury with some bleeding, two partially collapsed lungs, one due to hemothorax (blood around lung) and one pneumothorax (air surrounding lung) and was bleeding internally. They immediately placed two chest tubes, one on each side and then took her to surgery. She was in surgery for about 4 1/2 hours. They took about a liter of blood out of her abdominal cavity, removed her spleen, packed the crack in her liver. She also had a shearing injury to her aorta which they did grafts and placed a stent to help with the damage. They placed a probe into her brain to monitor her Inter Cranial Pressure. She was then moved up to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The money that is donated to the Holthe Family will be used for medical, travel, and lodging expenses while they are in Sioux Falls.
