Help me make a home fit for Alison

On Sunday 13th March 2016, whilst competing in a British Show Jumping Association event at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre my brave and beautiful wife, Alison, suffered a horrific horse riding accident.  Alison fractured several bones in her spine, the most significant being at T3 level (between the shoulder blades) which crushed the spinal cord.  Alison has undergone surgical spinal fixation at T3 but is completely paralysed from the chest level down.  The consultant has advised that Alison’s paralysis will be life long and she expects her to be a full time wheelchair user.  Alison is currently being treated in the Spinal Injuries Unit at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

As a result of Alison’s injuries, we need to make essential construction adaptations to our home that will provide for disabled access in readiness for her discharge from hospital.  Whilst the local authority will provide some assistance, there is a lot of building work required to provide ramps to access the home, widen doorways and make a ground floor bedroom and bathroom which Alison can access and use.

Because of the costs involved, I’m going to do something I’ve never done before in my life; I’m going to ask for financial assistance.  Alison has been employed for 28 years in the field of Trading Standards, committing her working life to helping consumers and businesses.  Now, I need to ask for help for Alison, which is why I’m setting up this fundraising page.
