Yukon’s Heartworm Treatment

6 months ago, Emily and I chose to foster Yukon from the local animal shelter in Delaware. He was deemed aggressive, and required immense amounts of training. But we quickly fell in love with him, behind all that aggression was fear and pain (along with a boy who REALLY loved to cuddle). We decided to adopt him and have put all our time and effort into giving him the best life possible. He is now the sweetest, kindest, and (usually) most well behaved dog we have ever met. Last week, on a vet visit to get a blister checked on his foot, we got the news that he is Heartworm positive. This new diagnosis is devastating and terrifying. He will have to spend the next 6+ months, going through rigorous and painful treatment that is incredibly costly. After being on a course of medications for the next two months, in December he will have to go in and get his first shot and stay overnight. He will get 2 more in January, and will have to stay 3 nights. These shots go deep into the muscle and are incredibly painful. Through this time, he will have to be crated and completely calm because if his heart rate increases, it can cause serious complications and even death. The cost listed would help to cover his Vet bills, Medications, as well as an ultrasound at the end of his treatment to view the damage the Heartworms and treatment have caused. We love him more than anything, and we refuse to give up on him. He deserves the best possible life we can give him, and your donations would mean the world to us (and him).
