Medical Bills for Graylin‘s Eye Surgery

My name is Graylin Johnson Jr. proud father of Graylin Johnson III. I typically don’t ask for help but for my son I willing to do anything. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with Coats Disease that is affecting his right eye. Coats disease specific cause is not known and is non-genetic and a non-heritable condition. Coats disease causes abnormal development of blood vessels behind the retina which can lead to full or partial blindness. Over time Coats disease can progress to elevated pressure inside the eye, clouding of the lens of the eye, detachment of the retina and substantial loss of vision. Since Medicaid will not cover the doctor visits I had to get private insurance to ensure he got the help he needed. Since then he has been seeing a specialist in Houston who can help save him from losing his vision in that eye. The doctor says at the rate it is progressing he would lose his vision by the age of 4. Being that we are from Louisiana it’s out-of-network to get the procedure done will cost about $12,000 out of pocket. His surgery is in 5 days and we are just finding out all the details of the cost of getting this done. The procedure would consist of Dr. Chang putting dye in his eye to identify the abnormal then using a laser to heat and destroy any abnormal blood vessels. Reattachment surgery for his retina ma also be a necessary procedure. All funds would go to making sure Graylin keeps his vision and eye by any means necessary.
