My Mom's Medical Fund

Hi, my name is Cassidy. I am 20 year old student at Wilfrid Laurier University. I live in Kitchener with my mom Tracy, (so it’s just us) who is a 52 year old server at a restaurant. My mom, who is the most important person in the world to me recently was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, which was a shock as everyone in my family has always been healthy, including my mom. When we first got the diagnoses we were set up with a plan of action, that plan was for my mom to have a lumpectomy and then she was to receive radiation in order to be sure that the cancer was completely gone. However, after she was done somewhat recovering from the lumpectomy we attended a follow up appointment with her surgeon. To our disbelief the surgeon told us my mom would be needing chemotherapy, as her cancer is very aggressive and her likelihood of it coming back without chemo was extremely high. We were told her treatment will be starting November 15, 2017 and will continue for about 6-8 months. As you can believe we were both in shock. You see, my mom is a single parent meaning she obviously is the one who cares for me. Although my mom is constantly going without so I don’t have to, it is still impossible for her to pay for everything she does on her lower than minimum wage serving job. It amazes me how she does this all on her own and still manages to be an above average mom. With chemo now being her only option to ensure her a long and happy life I took to the extremes. I told her I would gladly put my education on hold to start working full time in order for us to be able to afford the overhead we have in a little two bedroom apartment. However, my mom being the amazing woman she is insisted I was crazy and would not be dropping out of school. So I took to GoFundMe, I was not about to sit by and watch my mom stress about how in the world she was going to afford for us both to live while she was off work for 6-8 months for treatment. She has gone to every appointment possible to determine how we are going to pay for things while she is off. Now as amazing as the cancer society is in Ontario, the options for financial stability for struggling single parents is slim to none. We have now become burdened with the problem that my mom will not be taking part in chemotherapy if she can not find the funds. Which is absolutely not an option for me, any extra percentage my mom can be given to promise her a future where she can see her daughter grow up is a yes from me. Therefore I have come here to see if the good people in this world can help.

Now I know our end goal may seem a little steep, but that is the amount it will cost us to live with our basic needs for the 6-8 months that my mom is undergoing treatment. My mom has already cut everything out that she possibly can to save money, we have run out of options. We are now left with a $2500 overhead which includes, rent, groceries, basic necessities, etc. My mom is a woman who doesn’t do anything for herself, she doesn’t go out for dinner, she doesn’t get her nails or hair done, she won’t spend money on herself at any point if it means I have to go without. As I am sure you are wondering exactly where your money will be going, here it is. Any donations will be gratefully accepted and put towards our overhead so my mom can be around to meet her grandchildren and see her daughter get married.

My mom and I understand how hard life can be and that not everyone is able to afford to help, to the ones who can’t we want to say thank you for taking the time to read our story, and if you could please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers it would be greatly appreciated. To the ones who can donate, thank you for your generosity and God bless you.
