Emergency Moving and Temporary Stay

Hey there. First, thank you for taking the time to check out my GFM request. It’s been tough for my family and me to reach out for help right now, especially since so many other families are experiencing financial and medical hardships. I understand that everyone may have their own responsibilities, I am going out on a limb, and leaning on my community of friends and family, both near and far. My family’s housing situation has become dire and we need immediate help. ————————————————————— Before the pandemic hit the United States, like many families, my partner and I both worked to maintain our household. We were also happily preparing to welcome our child. My child’s father was laid off and most of my freelance income dried up. Still, we kept up with as much of our housing costs as we could while providing food to ourselves and our son, keeping the electricity on, and paying costs associated with pregnancy. We have received as much help from the state and other resources, via United Way, as we were eligible for. We have exhausted those funds and my partner’s unemployment funds are dwindling down, soon to end. ————————————————————— Although I am still actively doing minimal design work and he is looking for work, while receiving unemployment benefits, we were not able to keep up with housing costs and were evicted. We were paying as much of our rent as we could, up until August, when our property management company suddenly stopped taking partial payments and would only accept the full month(s) due at the time. By the time we were able to get one month’s rent together, the next was due and they wouldn’t accept anything less than what was owed in full. Unfortunately, Florida has not extended the moratorium, which means landlords and such are allowed to begin to evict tenants. We were one of those families.————————————————————— We filed all of our documents thru the courts. Regardless, the property manager of our complex sent a request for default, which was approved. In Florida, this denies us our right to a trial to fight the eviction, which means the property manager is able to request the sheriff remove us. We packed our things and moved them into a storage unit, however, we still have not been able to secure any other type of housing due to the eviction. We found a community that offers affordable income-based rent prices. We simply need to pay off the eviction’s balance in order to be approved for a unit. ————————————————————— With the recent news of my child’s birth defect and my pregnancy being high-risk, the timing could not be worse. Our goal is to raise enough money to secure some type of housing or long-term hotel stay for awhile we work toward paying off the debt owed to the property management company. We have already received a lot of help with his fund so far, which we have been using to stay in a hotel. It is very important for us to secure housing before giving birth to a new baby that will need specialized care. ————————————————————— We truly appreciate everyone that can help and has helped my family, whether by sharing our GFM campaign, donating, and/or pointing us to other resources. Again, I thank you all for taking the time out to read this. For those in similarly difficult situations, I send love to you.
