Medical equipment for Zimbabwe's emergency team

Hi everyone,
We are raising money to ship a container of donated medical equipment from Medshare, https://www.medshare.org/ to send to Zimbabwe to assist with the collapse of the medical system. Doctors in Zimbabwe are being consulted the whole way and they make the purchasing decisions.
The process will be as follows:
We have set up an account with Medshare where they will avail their inventory for the doctors to select equipment and consumables to fill a 40-foot container. This is a donation from them, but we must pay $25,000 for shipping to the port of Beira plus $2,500 for the cost of the container. Then a local shipping company will handle the logistics to get the container to Harare, clear customs and get it to City of Harare Emergency Services, who will distribute the contents to other local authorities. The quotation for Beira-Harare logistics will be finalized when the list of inventory is available. Emergency Services will assist with duty-free Customs clearance.
Any funds left over will be donated to fund solar power installation in rural hospitals and clinics. All projects supported by the organization are decided in consultation with doctors and professionals in Africa. We are in constant contact with them and make sure we do not impose our ideas on them. Local communities are involved so they have a buy-in into the process.
This is first project organized by Nyasha Africa, a new Washington DC nonprofit organization run by Africans with close ties to the continent who want to take an active hand in the donor and philanthropy industry aimed at Africa. The non-profit focuses on health and education projects in Africa as well as tech solutions to shortfalls in those sectors. Nyasha Africa seeks partnership with organizations who want sustainable environmental solutions by donating their surplus or refurbished equipment, laptops, tablets, and other devices to be shipped to Africa where they are given to doctors, nurses, teachers, and students. We are developing eHealth systems for medical professionals and virtual learning tools for education.
At any point in the process, we will issue updates on the recipients and progress beyond the point of delivery. We have names and addresses of all the recipients of the medical equipment. Zimbabwe is going through an economic crisis with healthcare services adversely affected. Hospital doctors have been on strike for over a year due to low pay. In addition to this, there is the global crisis and this equipment will go a long way towards saving lives of patients and making life easy for medical professionals to deliver proper service. Doctors and nurses in Zimbabwe's hospitals will be so grateful to receive this equipment.
In addition to this, there are constant power cuts. Imagine trying to perform operations or run equipment with unreliable or no power. Solar power installation in rural hospitals will be Nyasha Africa's next challenge so any leftover funds will go towards this. We will run a follow-up campaign to enable more solar panels to be purchased.
PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATION
Overview
The United Nation developed a call to action for all countries, developed and developing, to promote
prosperity while protecting the planet which they called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To
reach these ambitious goals, the UN recognizes the need to form global partnerships between
governments, the private sector, and the philanthropic world. Nyasha Africa is a non-profit which was set
up in Washington DC with global partnerships in mind to address the following SDGs
· SDG 3 Health and well-being for all: through expanding healthcare in Africa including:
o Providing start-up capital for the building or renovation of hospitals and clinics, especially in villages, small towns, and areas with limited access to healthcare.
o Partnering with technology companies to build e-Health, digital health or telemedicine solutions including mobile clinics to fast-track healthcare delivery.
o Providing capital for implementing healthcare programs including screening, treatment, and disease prevention.
o Promoting SDG 8, decent work, and economic growth because it creates workplaces for health workers to do their work.
· SDG 4 Quality Education: supporting virtual education programs in Africa as a means to tackle the shortage of schools on the continent by:
o Providing online resources for teachers to teach online.
o Partnering with telecommunications companies to provide free or low-cost internet.
o Providing devices for students to be able to learn online.
· SDG 15 Life on Land: by working with technology companies in the US as follows:
o Providing a sustainable means of preventing e-Waste by accepting excess inventory or old laptops, tablets, and mobile phones to be refurbished and shipped to Africa to be donated to students, doctors, and nurses for the above programs.
o Partnering with tech companies on their affordable access to internet programs like Google.org.
· SDG 17 Partnerships: fostering partnerships between US and Africa based organizations and professionals:
o To assess the needs of educators in Africa and share best practices.
o Partnering medical and nursing associations to share resources.
o Forming partnerships between hospitals in the US to create opportunities for donations of equipment and excess materials to hospitals in Africa.
o These donations also reduce poverty which is the aim of SDG 1.
About
Nyasha Africa was set up by pharmacist turned international fund manager, Deborah Peters, with other healthcare professionals in the US, after extensive consultation with doctors, nurses, and educators in Africa. The non-profit has strong relationships with medical and teaching associations in Africa who provide regular updates on what is needed on the group. The non-profit also formed alliances with similar non-profits operating in Africa to share knowledge and implementation of projects. Donation of equipment is a key part of the strategy therefore relationships are being forged with hospitals and organizations in the US who replace equipment that is perfectly usable by institutions in Africa.
