Please Let’s Help Sam Recover From Creek Fires

Donation protected
Imagine going to Practice and getting a phone call that your house has burned down!! That’s what happen to Samuel.. The Creek Fire destroyed more than 300 structures including the home of 13-year-old Sam Akoidu. Three former Bulldogs are helping raise money to continue his blossoming basketball career. Akoidu is part of Fresno International Prep, the only national basketball academy for youth in the Valley, founded by Dominick Young. Young's nephew, Dene Young Junior is best friends with Sam and part of the reason he has pursued basketball. Last year, Middle School Elite had Akoidu ranked 9th in the Nation amongst 6th graders. MSE contacted Young to start a GoFundMe after the fire destroyed all of Sam's belongings. The money will be used for basketball costs so the 7th grader can continue playing the sport he loves. Demetrius Porter donated to Sam's GoFundMe as part of his new business, Center Cork. It's a winery that invests part of its proceeds into the community and the development of Valley athletes. FIP developed a housing unit to provide athletes a safe space where they can hang out, play games or continue training. One of the bedrooms is used as a secondary place for Sam while the family figures out their next step. Shannon Swillis, a full-time firefighter and former Bulldog, said the FIP house is a one-stop shop for youth, similar to a Boys & Girls Club, where kids can relax and be themselves.
