On February 2, 2012, we all woke up to a normal Thursday morning. By 7:00, Alex was laying on the floor, unable to move or feel the lower half of her body. She was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a rare neurological disorder that causes paralysis. Why she got it? The doctors don't know. Possibly from a virus she came in contact with weeks before she became paralyzed. The why she got it doesn't even matter anymore...what matters is what we can do fix it! And make our beautiful girls life as functional and happy as possible. The statistics show that 1/3 of people with Transverse Myelitis recover 100%, 1/3 regain some, and 1/3 don't get any better at all. We want that 100%!!
My goal is to get Alex some much needed equiptment to get to that goal. We want a stander, so ALex can be up on those legs, and a electrical stimulated bicycle that will propel Alex's legs while sitting in it. The stimulation and the motion will help keep her legs strong and hopefully help her brain remember how to get those legs moving on their own.
Our insurance will help pay for some of the cost of the stander, but nothing for the bike. The bike price is 15,000 dollars! And thanks to you all, everyday we are closer to our goal of getting it!! My family and I can't thank you all for all of your support and donations. You have no idea how much it means to us. And what a difference you all are making in the life of our baby girl.
