Annie Walsh Memorial School Science Fund

Donation protected

Queens University of Charlotte has partnered with the Annie Walsh Memorial School in Freetown, Sierra Leone to revitalize the science program at the school.  Sierra Leone suffered a devastating civil war in the 1990s.  As a result the school suffered the loss of most of its resources.   The addition of the new Rogers Health and Science Building at Queens has allowed the science departments to set aside a substantial quantity of old, but usable, equipment and supplies to donate to the school.  We have about 1200 pounds so far.  The funds that we raise on this site will be used for three purposes.  First and foremost funds will pay for shipping the supplies to Freetown, estimated at $2500.  In May of 2013 eight Queens students, two professors and our Sierra Leonean liaison, will travel to Freetown.  Our purpose is to work with the school faculty and staff to help them incorporate the equipment into their curriculum.  Thus, any additional funds will be used to purchase materials once we arrive in Freetown and to help defray the travel costs of our liaison.  Queens is paying for the travel and lodging of the students and faculty.

The Annie Walsh was the premier girls school in Sierra Leone prior to the civil war.  With your help we can restore the school to its former status.  Thank you to all who decide to help us in this endeavor.
