Hi my name is Emily Steding. I created this Go Fund Me account in hopes to raise money for a beautiful young family that has been struck with a heartbreaking medical diagnosis for their young daughter McKenna, who turned 3 in June.
McKenna Riebkes was diagnosed with a large cancerous tumor in her abdomen in May of 2016. The tumor was initially too large to be removed, so ongoing radiation and chemotherapy were scheduled in hopes of shrinking the tumor to the point of being able to be removed. The tumor was pressing on her kidneys and other organs, causing additional medical issues, pain, and discomfort.
Through months of treatment, the chemotherapy had shrunk the tumor 75%. Although the size had drastically gone down, the remaining tumor was surrounding all five of her main blood vessels and still touching many organs. Surgery took place in late August, which was a very long and risky surgery, lasting 13 hours.
Shortly after recovering from the surgery, Mckenna continued chemotherapy in preparation of her stem cell transplant. There were a few setbacks including the discovery that cancer had moved to one of her lymph nodes. There current plan is to put McKenna through a double stem cell transplant in hopes of beating this once and for all. Mckenna is currently in Minneapolis recovering from her first transplant. Her second transplant is scheduled for mid January. This process is very hard on her body and will be a very slow recovery.
Jaime and Addison Riebkes, the parents of McKenna had welcomed a new baby boy to the world on March 28th, just a couple of months before the tumor was found.
The money raised will go towards medical bills, food, house payment, and other expenses.
