Kelly and Joseph lost their house and cars

Hello everyone. I’m fundraising for some of our family who live up the hill from us. It’s a hard story to write and will be a tough one to read I’m sure. We’re in a little town called Sugartown in rural Louisiana. The impact of Hurricane Laura on our community has been pretty devastating. Especially coming in on the heels of covid 19. Some of us fared better than others. Most of us will be without electricity and other conveniences for 45-70 days. Joseph and Kelly are those people any of you would love to have as a neighbor. She makes the majority of the cakes for the weddings we hold at our place. She makes the majority of the cakes for the WHOLE AREA around here. They’re the kind of people who continue to give even when they have nothing left to give. Which is the case here. They lost their house to hurricane Laura. It was not insured. It peeled the roof off like a tuna can and then filled it with water mud and debris. It’s terrible. As if that weren’t enough, the day after the storm the engine in their car jumped time and destroyed itself. They’re staying with family right next door which made it easy to salvage what they could, but during the clean out, their beautiful golden lab nosed his way into the now destroyed house and locked himself in one of the bedrooms and then suffered a terrible heat exhausted death. These are the same people who then loaded up their equipment and came down to our place to help an overwhelmed me get the giant oak tree off of our motorhome so we could possibly salvage it. The selflessness is real. The kicker is while they were in the process of helping me, their oldest son, while driving to work was hit by a woman driving an uninsured car. ANOTHER devastating blow. Another totaled car. So their actions of helping me, along with the help and support we have received from our friends and family has urged me to try this. Maybe at least get them something they can start rebuilding with. Maybe we could get enough to get a new engine in the car. Maybe we could get enough to get the oven and refrigerator going to get her back in the cake making business? Who knows. It’s all up to you guys.
