Steve's Health Fund

We all know that “other” person who has fallen on hard times, but this time it is someone you know! Please consider making a donation for Steve McNew to help him through his medical issues. He has worked hard all his life and is very nervous and embarrassed to ask for help, but he is to a point he must rely on his friends. Steve has said it was ok for us to create this account for him, but he is definitely uncomfortable with it.

If you don’t know, here is the story.  Steve got a brown recluse spider bite on the ball of his foot in 2014. He couldn’t really feel the bite and didn’t even know what it was for a while until it was a big blister. He had no feeling in that spot. He was working at Flight Safety International and because of the medical treatment for the spider bite; he had to take two months off work. When he returned to work, the medications he was taking for the wound on his foot made him very sleepy and he was eventually fired from his job.

He was then offered Cobra insurance but it was going to cost $1300 a month and he needed to pay for the three previous months and then continue it, he wasn’t ready for that kind of expense. He tried several other insurance companies, but they wouldn’t insure him due to his condition. He stopped going to the doctor for treatment on his foot and it was not healing well at all. About the time that you may have seen the picture of Steve on Facebook after his fall in the Post Office, his foot was getting worse and worse. Friends finally convinced him to go to the doctor and he was admitted to the hospital right away. During this hospitalization his foot was partially amputated and a PICC line (a special IV line) was placed for 9 weeks of IV antibiotic treatment.

With no job, no savings, no income and no health insurance, Steve began selling his possessions to pay his bills.

Most recently, Steve has had numbness in his feet and leg. After seeing a Neurosurgeon, it was determined that Steve needs emergency surgery to stabilize his spine in his neck. Due to the damage to Steve’s cervical spine, his neck vertebrae are being crushed causing spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal; this in turn is causing the numbness in his feet and legs. This is not an optional surgery, if it is not done, he could lose the feeling and use of his legs permanently.

Steve is very humbled by the love and support his friends have shown him thus far. We are asking for your financial help now,

any help you can provide. Many small donations are just as good as one large donation, so please donate $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or more! And please share this page with everyone. This is the time for his friends to rally and show Steve how much he means to all of us.
