24 Hour Katathon Fundraiser in aid of Shivani Cook

Shivani Cook aged 13 of Carmarthen was a fit healthy child who has been a student of Carmarthenshire Karate since the age of 5 years. She competed regularly for the squad, achieved many accolades and in the last year had been training with the National Welsh Team. Shivani is a 3rd Kyu grade (Brown belt). In November 2019 she started collapsing in school, her legs became weak and she started experiencing myoclonic spasms. She is no longer able to walk for long without an aid due to her weakness, fatigue and the myoclonic spasms causing her to fall. She spent 2 weeks in hospital in November and has since been waiting for a specialist paediatric neurologist to assess her and determine the best treatment. She has been referred to a Private Neurologist to speed up the process as her Myoclonic spasms are causing her great difficulties such as with drinking and swallowing. Shivani is a beautiful, caring person whose life has been turned upside down by her current health issues – she is unable to shower independently, eat with normal cutlery, walk or do any activities that she used to be able to do. We want to see our Shivani back to her energetic, happy, talented and confident self. It has shocked us all deeply that this can happen so suddenly and unexpected with no warning, and has reminded us that it could happen to any one of us and our children. As a club Carmarthenshire Karate and Shivani's extended Karate family and friends feel very strongly about helping Shivani to get well again are doing this Fundraising event to help this beautiful girl get the treatment that she needs. Any contributions no matter how small are very much appreciated.
