Musty’s Senior Fashion Thesis
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Tyrone Smith, but I am known as Musty. I am entering my senior year at Massachusetts College of Art and Design as a fashion major specializing in sartorial wear. Many of my garments are focused on the Black experience and perspective in the United States, and manifesting it into a physical product. Being a first-generation college student predominantly in the arts, I always find myself in financial strain. My thesis is centered around racial injustice and the lack of Black representation in the fashion industry.
I have tried to apply for many awards and grants but unfortunately, my ideas and applications end up falling on deaf ears. The COVID-19 pandemic has also prevented me from working at three of my jobs, including the Massart Art Museum as an exhibit installer. I want to be a positive influence on the youth and the people in my city, and want to reinforce the idea that it is possible for Black kids to access the “high-fashion” world, and hold power in it.
The $5,000 I am hoping to raise will go directly to funding the creation of my senior thesis, and further endeavors for my own brand, Musty. It would account for the costly expense of materials, and potential advertising for my collection. I’ve attached pictures of my previous works for you to get an idea of what your donations will help me create. Thank you in advance :)
