GWO FANM: A photobook by Naomieh Jovin
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to support Philadelphia-based photographer Naomieh Jovin in self-publishing a book of her work titled GWO FANM. The funds will go towards costs of duplication, which include printing, binding, and other materials.
Gwo Fanm is Haitian Creole for Big Woman.
Influenced by the absence of her late mother and her experience growing up Haitian in America, Naomieh combines found images of her mother with original photography incorporating the nude female body. Through this process she makes connections between her mother's personal history and her own, touching upon topics of sexual violence and racial bias.
