Glenda Mills and Dave Mills Prostate Cancer Fund

Hi! My name is Karen and this GoFundMe is for my son in-law Dave. I am his wife’s Glenda Mills mom and I am trying to help them out during this extremely difficult time. Please read Dave’s story and think about helping. Dave Mills’ has recently been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He is a father of 5 children 3 of which are grown and out of the house. His other 2 children live at home with him and are 17 and 12. He is married to his wife for over 14 years and they have been together for 18 years. He is a Christian and someone who will lend a hand to others in need. He recently started a new job after being on disability for 4 years. 20+ years ago Dave had a total colectomy due to pre-cancerous polyps. This condition has caused him to have recurrent bowel obstructions and after having to miss work more than working he was put on disability. Although his condition is never going to change they decided he was no longer disabled. At that time,his wife and him decided to appeal the disability decision. Also, at this time he received a job offer out of the blue. After much prayer they decided he should take the job. He has been at that position for a little over a month. Since Dave’s job is so new he has very little vacation and sick time. We are hoping that people can donate to help him and his family out with the out of pocket costs he will incur and also any lost wages. We also appreciate any and all prayers that you are able to lend on his behalf. After speaking with Glenda the financial counselor at the cancer center told her that out of pocket expenses will be around $7,000 dollars each year and that is without any of his radiation treatments. Also, after the $7,000 they will then be responsible for 20%. His prostate cancer is a stage 4A and it has spread from the prostate into the nearby lymph nodes. They are lucky that it has not spread from that area or he would be considered a stage 4B. The great news is because the cancer is a 4A they believe it is curable. He will have to be on 2 different types of hormone medications. The medication consists of one shot every 3 months and also a daily medication. After approximately 6 months they will start radiation treatments and this will be everyday for a certain amount of time. The whole overall treatment for his cancer will be anywhere from 1 year to 3 years. As I am sure everyone knows cancer treatments are not cheap and that is why I started this GoFundMe for them. They do have medical insurance. Which they are thankful to God for but, there is still a lot of deductibles that need to be met. This year has been particularly hard for them with the passing of his wife’s grandfather and some other very personal and difficult things. They actually found out that Dave was being dropped from disability the day her grandfather was buried. Then 2 weeks after starting his job they found out that he had cancer. They wanted me to pass along how very grateful they are for all of their friends and family. Their prayers and love have helped them through this hard time. They also want to say that they do believe that God’s hand is in everything and that they trust him for a full and complete healing. So thank you all for your kindness, prayers, and support.
