Medical Help For Jackie

On May 11,2020 my mom Jackie has a stroke. Her brain started bleeding and the doctors almost gave up all hope that she would even live. They called me asking if they should take her off life support. I asked them to wait till my brother could make it to say good bye. He was in the car driving towards her but he was two hours away. He made it just in time to notice that she was still responsive. The doctors changed shifts and my brother explained what he saw. The new doctor believed there was hope and ordered a life flight for her to be sent to a better equipped hospital in Tacoma, Washington. I got on a plane and was there the next day but I was not allowed in because of updated regulations due to Covid-19. The nurses decorated a big “J” on her window so I could see it from the parking lot. After a week they started letting one family member per a day in. My brothers and I took turns waiting by her bedside, praying for her recovery. She was on a ventilator for 2 weeks, which was the maximum amount of time the doctors would allow. The doctors wanted to do a tracheotomy but the last possible day she started breathing on her own. Then they were worried about her blood pressure and did not want to move her out of ICU until it could stabilize. She once again went against the odds and came off her blood pressure medication. Her next obstacle was the feeding tube. She had had it for a month and she was still unable to eat. They finally did the surgery to add a feeding tube through her stomach so that she could go to a rehab facility. This incredible woman has gone against so many impossible odds. She still has a long way to go with rehabilitation and physical therapy since she is paralyzed on her right side. Insurance only covers a fraction of her needs. Most of her medical expenses will have to come out of pocket. She has touched so many lives and helped so many people in their time of need.
