This page is to help my mom, Christine. You could say Christine has been having a streak of bad luck that has lasted the last couple eighteen years...
When my father died in 1996, mom was able to hold things together pretty well, for a while, working a few part-time jobs. Sadly that was also the year my younger brother (then 15) was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. As the years wore on (and my brother's disease progressed) it became apparent she could no longer take care of my brother and was forced to enroll him in a state run program for the mentally ill. Soon after, she lost her house and had to move herself and my elderly grandmother into a trailer.
On a recent surprise visit back to my hometown I discovered just how severely my mother struggles, not only financially but also with her own health and well being (over the phone she always assures me everything is fine and changes the subject to me and my life). My goal is to raise enough money to go home for a month or so to take care of my mother while she receives and recovers from necessary medical procedures as well as help her find more suitable living quarters for herself and my 90 year old diabetic grandmother. IF we are able to reach our goal we may even be able to get her a suitable "clunker" to get my grandma back forth to doctor appointments! Most importantly, I am trying to create some much needed space between my mother and hunger and quite possibly the street. I live thousands of miles away and Grandma probably isn't up for a cross country move at the age of 90.
My mom, has taken in strays her entire life. People and animals alike flock to my mother when they need food, shelter and compassion. I hope it is finally her turn to receive after all these years of giving. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
