Brain Tumor Removal

En enero del 2019, nuestra mamá Marcela Chávez como todos la conocen, cayó en lo que nosotros creíamos que era una depresión severa. Empezamos a notar cambios en su comportamiento natural y en ella como persona, sin darse cuenta ella cambio su forma de ser, era una persona irreconocible. De inmediato la llevamos a distintos psicólogos y psiquiatras para poder tener diferentes puntos de vista, sin embargo, la mayoría identificaban estos comportamientos como depresión. Cuatro meses atrás, empezamos a creer que se podria tratar de un trastorno neurológico, ya que su comportamiento empeoraba, perdió la vista periférica, fue perdiendo el olfato, presentaba muchos signos de bipolaridad, entre otros cambios. Actuamos rápidamente e intentamos hacerle los exámenes debidos, (resonancia magnética, tomografía con contraste, y distintos exámenes de sangre). Lamentablemente por la situación del COVID-19, los hospitales no se encontraban disponibles en ese momento. Tuvimos que esperar, y hasta hace 3 semanas logramos someterla a todos las pruebas necesarias. En un abrir y cerrar de ojos todo cambio para nuestra familia, las pruebas habían detectado un tumor cerebral, localizado en ambos lóbulos frontales del cerebro. Fue llevada inmediatamente al neurocirujano y él nos dijo que necesitaba ser operada. Lamentablemente el tumor, en el último año, alcanzo a abarcar el 30% de su cerebro, siendo esto un tamaño exagerado y anormal según los doctores. Debido a esto, nuestra mama debe ser sometida a una embolización y posteriormente a más de una cirugía para poder remover toda la masa del tumor, luego de esta cirugía debe ser trasladada inmediatamente a la unidad de cuidados intensivos por el alto riesgo que esta conlleva. Nuestras opciones son pocas debido todos los riesgos que implican esta cirugía, y encima el virus que actualmente está atacándonos a todos. El IHSS cuenta con la mejor unidad de cuidados intensivos del país, sin embargo, en estos momentos se encuentra abarrotado de pacientes COVID y se sigue llenando. Nos deja únicamente con la opción de un Hospital privado que cumple con todo el equipo y requisitos en la base de cuidados intensivos. Sabemos los altos costos que requiere este hospital y es por eso que estamos solicitando de su apoyo y colaboración con una donación, cualquier cantidad es significativa para poder llegar a nuestra meta y ayudarnos a que Marcela Chávez vuelva a ser la mujer guerrera, valiente, hermosa y dulce que todos conocemos y amamos. In January 2019, our mother Marcela Chávez, as everyone knows her, fell into what we believed to be severe depression. We began to notice changes in her natural behavior and in her as a person, without realizing it she changed her way of being, she was an unrecognizable person. We immediately took her to different psychologists and psychiatrists in order to have different points of view, however, most identified these behaviors as depression. Four months ago, we began to believe that it could be a neurological disorder, since her behavior worsened, she lost peripheral vision, she lost his scents, she had many signs of bipolarity, among other changes. We act quickly and try to do the proper tests, (MRI, contrast tomography, and various blood tests). Unfortunately due to the situation of COVID-19, hospitals were not available at that time. We had to wait, until 3 weeks ago we managed to subject her to all the necessary tests. In the blink of an eye everything changed for our family, the tests had detected a brain tumor, located in both frontal lobes of the brain. She was immediately brought to the neurosurgeon and he told us that she needed surgery. Unfortunately the tumor, in the last year, has reached 30% of her brain, this being an exaggerated and abnormal size according to the doctors. Due to this, our mom must undergo an embolization and then more than one surgery in order to remove the entire tumor mass, after this surgery she must be immediately transferred to the intensive care unit due to the high risk that this entails. Our options are few due to all the risks involved in this surgery, and on top of the virus that is currently attacking us all. The IHSS (public hospital) has the best intensive care unit in the country, however, it is currently overcrowded with COVID patients and continues to fill up. It leaves us only with the option of a private Hospital that meets all the equipment and requirements in the intensive care base. We know the high costs that this hospital requires and that is why we are requesting your support and collaboration with a donation, any amount is significant in order to reach our goal and help Marcela Chávez become the warrior woman, brave, beautiful and sweet that we all know and love.
