2022 Summer City Planning Institute

Celebrating its 5th year, the Summer City Planning Institute introduces students from urban areas to the city planning process and provides them with the tools to critically evaluate challenges and work with government officials to create plans for making positive changes in their areas.
The program incorporates training from certified planners, guest speakers, field trips and utilizes state-of-the-art technology. Students host a final community showcase to present their findings and plans to decision-makers and local stakeholders.
The 2022 City Planning Institute (“CPI”) will support 75 students in four cities:
- Newark: Students will help update the Master Plan in conjunction with the Office of Planning and Zoning in the Department of Economic and Housing Development.
- Paterson: Students will be supporting the efforts by the New Jersey Community Development Corporation to improve West Side Park.
- Passaic: Students will work to enhance two retail corridors by creating and analyzing a survey of merchants and customers for Main Avenue and Broadway.
- Trenton: Students will support efforts by the Trenton Housing Authority and City’s Planning Department to improve and expand recreation spaces.
In partnership with the Center for Community Planning, the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association is urging friends and colleagues to support this invaluable program for our students financially.
