2022 Baja 1000

Best Day Ever (BDE) is a race team made up of 4 strong and successful women coming together to race in the 2022 National Off Road Racing Association’s (NORRA) Mexican 1000 with the mission of bringing Breast Cancer Awareness to the community.

 

Valerie, an Ohio native, now resides on the OBX where she runs a successful rental business alongside her husband and son which all started from their love of Vintage VW Buggies. Valerie’s favorite thing about running a buggy rental is seeing first time buggy drivers fall in love behind the wheel and then go off to buy or build their own.

 

Nancy is a retired business professional who lives in New York with her husband and enjoys being active and getting as much dune buggy time as the east coast weather permits. As a breast cancer survivor, Nancy is extremely proud to represent the survivors and the team’s quest to bring awareness to the importance of Breast Cancer Research and Breast Cancer Health.

 

Stephanie is a life-long resident of Hamilton Square, New Jersey. She is a Registered Nurse of 31 years and currently works as a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant and Patient Educator at Saint Peter's University Hospital. She loves to help support and guide new parents as they navigate this important time in their lives.

 

Lucy hails from the small island of Rota, a United States territory, and the southernmost island of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) but now spreads that Hafa Adai spirit in the great state of NC. She is an Army veteran and an adventure enthusiast. She is the only member of this team that does not own a buggy but she comes with her heart full of passion, dedication to charitable causes, and driving experience.

 

To make this race more personal and meaningful to us, we chose to race in pursuit of breast cancer awareness as each of us has been personally affected by Breast Cancer in some way. We want to inspire hope to those affected and educate others on the importance of annual mammograms, regular health checks, and supporting Breast Cancer Research. This race is symbolic to the journey of those affected- the endless miles in different terrains, some harder than others but every mile of effort you put in, there is support at every pit stop. The journey may be scary but when a team and community come together, they help bring us back on the path to the finish line and remind us why we fight.

 

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. There is currently no known cure for breast cancer, and its early diagnosis is critical to survival.” While awareness alone is not enough to prevent Breast Cancer, early detection can help raise the chances of survival.

 

This coming April, our team will be driving across Mexico starting the race in the town of Ensenada and down through the cities of San Felipe, Guerrero Negro, Loreto, La Paz and then to our final stop in San Jose Del Cabo in the span of 5 days, covering 1376 miles, racing a Meyers Manx II in the Legends Class.

 

We- Nancy, Stephanie, Valerie and Lucy, want you to be a part of this journey! We are raising funds to offset some of the costs such as equipment and travel expenses, so any donation will help get us there. A portion of the donations we receive will go towards the National Breast Cancer Foundation which is a charity we selected because their cause aligns with our mission for this race.
