Happy Holiday Season 2020!!!
Outpatient Behavioral Health Services at Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro is an intensive day-treatment program for patients with chronic mental illness. We aim to help our patients maintain optimal mental health, to help reduce/eliminate their rates of inpatient hospitalization, and to help them thrive within their communities. Our patients face numerous challenges on a day to day basis: poor social and family support, stigma, marginalization, and poverty. Most live in group homes, and virtually all of their Social Security benefits are consumed by housing costs. Most have less than $100 a month remaining for discretionary purchases. Each holiday season, we raise funds to provide our patients each with a holiday gift, and to supplement expenses for various supplies necessary to do our work throughout the year. Gifts given to patients in years past have included blankets, jackets, scarves, gloves, personal radios, and food gift cards. Program supplies we've been able to obtain have include art supplies, clothing, personal hygiene products, multimedia equipment, and gift cards for participation in our rehabilitative vocational program. For our patients, these gifts carry tremendous meaning and benefit. Many will otherwise not receive a single thing from anyone else in their lives this holiday season.
I'd like to thank all of last year's donors who made Christmas 2019 very memorable for over 130 chronically mentally ill patients. We were able to raise nearly $7,000 dollars which funded personal radios and gift cards, as well as countless program supplies throughout the year. THANK YOU!!! We are inordinately grateful for the support of donors like you. This small gesture goes a long way toward lifting the spirits of a vulnerable population at a very vulnerable time of the year.
While we realize that having several glowing photographs of our patients is desirable, California mental health confidentiality laws prohibit us from posting them. We are able to provide to you either a paper or PDF receipt for your tax records if you so wish. Simply email me - Jonathan Ramsden, MFT - through the GoFundMe portal to request one.
