Barneys Fundraiser for SAVE OUR SPANIELS

Tax deductible
Do you want to join Barney in making a difference? We are raising money in aid of SAVE OUR SPANIELS and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to Barney and me.

As you can see from his photo that although Barney is a handsome chap he is not a Brittany or any other type of Spaniel. He came to us at eight weeks old from hunt kennels and has been with us ever since. Our older hound Bertie passed away on 12th March this year and  Barney is lost without him.

As most of my dogs over the years have been rescues of one sort or another, I immediately started looking to rehome another dog and came across SAVE OUR SPANIELS, a relatively small Lincolnshire based Charity that rescues and rehomes all types of Spaniels but particularly Spanish Brittany Spaniels.

We had just made an application to rehome a dog through SAVE OUR SPANIELS when everything ground to a halt because of Lockdown. Our application to foster and or adopt was not the only thing that ground to a halt due to Covid-19 lockdown, so did the ability to move dogs from Spain to the UK. This meant that extra costs were being incurred daily, so we set about a fundraiser to help.

Barney, his friend Bolt ( a retired Gun Dog Labrador) Kate and I did the 2020 2.6 Challenge, to raise money towards the cost of the residencia fees for dogs that are spending longer in Spain than usual. We have raised £227 so far but this has not met our ambitious target.

So Barney (9 human years) Kate (532 dog years) and Barbara (434 dog years) are starting a new challenge. We are planning to walk at least 100 miles each in May. Barney's friend Bolt will probably join us for about half the distance.

Barney, Bolt, Kate and I will keep you updated with our progress, as we did for the 2.6 Challenge.

There has been very good news from SAVE OUR SPANIELS, 20 dogs and puppies have been allowed to travel to the UK and reach their foster and adoptive homes, however, there are still likely to be delays and hold ups that affect the dogs and pups still in the residencia, and there are many more dogs who still need the help that SAVE OUR SPANIELS provide, so fundraising is still a necessity.

The cost of keeping a healthy dog at the residencia is about £2.60 per day or the Cost of a Cup of Coffee. This is without all the other costs that need to be covered, vaccinations, spaying, neutering, de-fleaing, worming, transport etc. etc.

Can you spare the cost of a cup of coffee to support a dog for a day?

Anything no matter how small is going to help to safeguard the future of these bright, sociable and friendly dogs and help them have a better future.
