Military Pets Matter

Military dogs are family too! My son has been serving his country for over 10 years with the United States Air Force. His family of five, including 2 German Shepherds, because they are family too are fighting to stay together. My son is currently deployed for the last year, but because of COVID19 his deployment has been longer. My daughter in law, my grandson, and my two granddogs have been living with us during this time. My Airman got word that they are sending him to England for his next duty station coming up in May. Not a bad place to be, but the struggles are real. Unfortunately, with the COVID19, rules have been drastically changed for travelling pets. They just found out that the airlines will now charge $5500 to transport his dogs to England to make his family complete. Not only have airlines hiked up the prices, they also STOPPED all military discounts for the pets. Before COVID19 their family was scheduled to fly out and they had all pet travels set up at a much much lower rate. Now that the military are making their transfers, the airlines had to make these adjustments. Just a little history of these two majestic dogs....Gambit (white) was the first pet acquired while based in Wyoming. Cody (brown) was owned by another military personnel who couldn't stay with his dog so my son took him in and will not give him up or separate these two kindred spirits; these dogs are more than family, they are the protector of their little guy, my grandson. The dog owners who are in the military love their pets and rely on them to take care of their families while away. Let's pull together to keep them together. Break down of costs: Flight $5500 Customs upon arrival $700 Custom crates $1600 (paid) Received SPCA International Grant $1000 Needed funds $5200 All their savings is for moving into their new home. The military does take care of monthly rental fees off base, but it takes several long months to get funding secured. That's just the nature of the beast.
