2018 World Trail Championships
Help get Robert to the World Championships in Penyagolosa, Spain!
2017 was a very succesful running year. In fact, so succesful that shortly after crossing the finish line at the North Face Endurance Challenge in November 2017,
I learned that was chosen to represent the Austrian Trail National team in Spain, going for the long distance : 85km/53 miles.
This is a dream come true for me, but the cost to get there is very steep. My wife and I are digging into our savings to get to this race, but I could really use some help.
Here is what it means to me:
1. Trail and ultrarunning are not an official olympic discipline. Therefore, competing at the Trail Ultra World Championships is about the highest competitive
level you can get.
2. 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with a Menigioma. The brain surgery had a traumatic impact on sense of worth and physical strength. That feeling of having to learn to walk again has never left me. It is the reason I train with such determination. This championship race is a an incredible culmination of my pride in my birth country Austria, my perseverance during adversity, my wonderful life with my wife, and my heart in mi corazon de Espana.
3. The Championships are held in Spain, a country very close to my heart and a source of my motivation. A solid chunk of my education came from Spain in 2009-10, when I lived in La Coruña meeting some of my closest friends in the world. The country always has meant a lot to me and this is a great reason to go there and celebrate my life with my wife on a 85km long run from the beach on to Mount Penyagolosa with 5000 meters of elevetion gain.
Every single dollar will be a great help and will go towards my journey. It will cover travel costs and lodging, as well as medical exams and other requirements to be admitted to start at the World Trail Championships.
