2017 Anti-Poverty Week Conference
Anti-Poverty Network SA, an alliance of sole parents, students, unemployed people, carers, Age and Disability Pensioners, and others, is hosting a two-day conference for Anti-Poverty Week: Attack Poverty, Not The Poor .
Book tickets here.
We want to inject something into Anti-Poverty Week,, into this country's debates around poverty and unemployment, that is often missing: the voices of low-income people themselves. We want a conference on poverty where those directly affected, those in the firing line of punishing government policies, can speak for themselves, and lead the way.
Not only this, but a conference with a strong focus on action, on campaigns and projects; and a conference with some deeper analysis, that connects the dots, and looks at the causes, as well as the symptoms...
But we have some significant expenses: we have interstate guests, activists and low-income people from three different states, and for the first time, international guests, from New Zealand.
We also hope to provide childcare for both days of the conference, to help our group's sole parents attend, and to organise car-pooling, petrol vouchers, taxi vouchers, and a mini-bus to help bring down people from the outer-suburbs of Adelaide to attend this special event.
