1500 Mile Prayer Walk for Water
I am asking for the gift of your support so I may join the Mississippi River Water Walk (see page for this on FB) this March and April. In order to go and be able to contribute to the shared cost of transport, food and lodging, I need to raise $1500 by the end of February.
Each step in the roughly 1500 mile walk along the Mississippi River, from the headwaters in Minnesota to its delta in Louisiana, will be, at once, an act of prayer and an offering.
By walking, I will be joining my prayer to those of Ojibwe elder, Josephine Mandamin, who first envisioned and began the prayer walk for water, and to the intentions and prayers of all those from the Anishenabe and other First Nation communities as well as non-Indigenous supporters who have walked with her in her water walks over the last 10 years. Together, all who walked have created a movement whose aim and effect is to awaken a deeper awareness of the importance of water as sacred and vital source and sustenance for all living things and to spur an urgently needed change in the way we live in relation to water and all life.
The walk is a prayer for water and at once an expression of and a call for the kind of change we need to live . At the same time, the walk is an offering: with every step, I offer a listening stillness and openness of heart to be a willing and possible part --like a living stitch--in the work of healing our relation to water and all that shares in the sacred fabric by which we are and are sustained.
