Can you help Our lil' Warriors
HelIo my name is Lynnette Glover,
I am a U. S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Honorable discharge and retired after 22 years and 2 months of honorable service, I retired June 30, 2011 U.S Marine Corps., during service my son developed cancerous tumor called medulloblastoma in the fall of 2007. I want to thank everyone for their support and generosity.
About 18% of childhood brain tumors are medulloblastoma which is a low rate, but approximately 70% of all cases occur in children under age 10 that is a high rate. My son had just turned 11 when he was diagnosed and had no symptoms. If not for an eye doctor appointment which uncovered a baseball size tumor in the rear area of his brain Devin would have never been known to have cancer.
My son did well after the first treatments was able to get back to regular school for the first two years after diagnosis. While leaving church one Sunday my son suffered horrible fall, he was rushed to the hospital it was later found that he had recurrent brain tumors with signs of AML leukemia and fluid swelling on the brain. This happens only 24 days after my retirement, I was devastated in March of 2012 my son lost his battle with this horrible disease.
As a parent not working and sitting in the hospital with my son for close to 30 days praying for his recovery, was hard, then taking him home, he had numerous hospital appointment physical and occupational therapy in San Diego Rady Children's hospital more than 120 miles round trip sometimes 2 times a week. With medical, travel and home expense, (gas, medication, co-pays) just trying to keep my son healthy was costly.
As a Veteran I had the medical coverage necessary to help my son, but all families in my situation don't, always have adequate healthcare. I would like to set up this page to help families in need, as so many people did for my family and I. The hospital supplied gas cards and lunch vouchers the Ronald McDonald house provided the living arrangements to keep me close to my son if not for this support system I would have been lost.
So, my goal here is to raise funds and help anyway I can. I would like your help to give that same support back, whatever you can with advice, volunteer your time, anything you can give, will help. If you can provide financially whatever big or small it will truly be appreciated. I plan to make blankets for the children in the hospital in the name of Devin my lil Warrior, to help keep other lil Warriors warm at nigh in their hospital beds.
Sincerely thank you in advance for your help,
Lynnette Glover
