To Uganda with love (and Eve's Song!)

Only one week until we leave for Uganda

Hello dear friends,
We are quickly counting down towards our trip to build a school for orphans on Ssese Island, Uganda"”a huge faith venture. We still have a large amount of money to raise for this amazing cause, approximately $8,000.

Even more importantly, we have 70 children waiting for us, children who have christened our team, "their angels."

Compassion comes from projecting the path ahead for those in need. If no one intervenes on their behalf, what will be the likely future of the children of Ssese Island?

We simply take a look at the long history of those who live there. The boys will most likely end up as fisherman. Some of them will drown in the turbulent Lake Victoria. Some will be attacked by crocodiles. Most will end up drinking the home brew, until they succumb to alcoholism or die of AIDS. The girls will work transporting water, working long hours in the fields...and many will be tempted with prostitution as a way to eek out a living. The average girl will die during their 40's of AIDs or other diseases.

Education translates into breaking patterns long established. It translates into hope. Our partner, The Children's Sure House, has proven that compassion can translate into concrete results"”some of the children they've served are now university students.

What will your donation do?

Help us as we lead a team of 17 people to go to Uganda where we will: travel to Ssese Island to build a school for orphans; support the church planting in Luwero that the Treasure Valley Church is sponsoring; and experience firsthand a fertile mission field and developing country still healing from past conflict and trauma.

Help us flesh out God's heart for the orphans (see the link below for more about the orphans of Ssese). You'll get to experience the trip firsthand through my Facebook posts. As each brick is laid, each gift is given, you can rejoice with us in your contribution to the project.

Help transform lives here in the U.S. We expect to bring home 17 different people than we brought there"”changed forever by the experience. For some of these Christians, this is an opportunity they couldn't have even dreamed of before. Dave and I couldn't be prouder of the group God has assembled for this great task.

Will you consider helping us? You can donate here or contact me through Facebook to send a donation directly.

Thanks in advance for your help! God bless and big hugs!

More information about the project:

Who and Where: We will be teaming up with the Children's Sure House to build this self-sustaining school. Last year we raised the money to purchase the land for the school and funds to pay teachers. That money also has built support structures we will stay in while we are on Ssese Island (and will provide rental income to sustain the project year round). Read more at www.childrenssurehouse.com.

Why? We've been asked again and again...why Uganda? Why not invest the money here? Actually, we didn't choose Uganda. Uganda chose us. Through God's providence we met Martin and Flavia Mpanga, founders of the Children's Sure House (they stayed at our home in Chicago 4 years ago). With time, the relationship deepened...and year after year, they begged us, "Please come to Uganda." In this short letter, I can't explain all the doors that had to open for this to happen, but God made it obvious it was his plan. Now, we are simply joining God where he is already at work.

What's needed? Besides for funds, we will also be each taking a suitcase of school supplies and clothing for the children there. We also need mosquito nets, work gloves and other assorted items. Due to my readings there last year, there is also a huge demand for copies of Eve's Song. Some will be sold at a special rate. With your help, I will also have other books to give at no charge to those who need them most.

And more... Dave and I will also travel to Kenya, where we will once again teach. Last year we did purity seminars for: 1,000 married's, 600 singles and college students, and numerous teens. The hearts of the disciples there are amazing. This year we will follow up on that work and more! Watch for updates.

Everyone can participate: Please pray for us. Let us take your hearts with us to Ssese Island, Uganda.
